Who We Are:
Silver City-Grant County Economic Development Corporation (SIGRED, pronounced see-gred) was created in 1978. The twenty-four member Board of Directors is comprised of a wide variety of outstanding community leaders with a diverse background in community knowledge. SIGRED has over 100 members, who aid in supporting its goals.
SIGRED became a nonprofit corporation in 1990. Its shareholders are its members. Memberships are purchased by individuals, small business and local corporations who believe in the future of the community. Members enjoy two-fold benefits: the privilege of helping our community to grow economically, and the right to participate in SIGRED activities.
Board members are responsible to the membership for SIGRED’s operations. These board members, selected from the membership, are elected by SIGRED members each May during the annual meeting. The new board then elects its officers.
The primary purpose of this 501(c)(3) organization is to educate the community about various aspects of economic development. As an example, SIGRED has presented the New Mexico Economic Development Course every May since 1993. The week-long course attracts attendees from around the state and around the country who are interested in economic and community development.
